Chapter 3
To my utter amazement, everybody in the apartment block knew about my encounter with Stephanie after just two days. It was as if, it was some kind of big news, which had to be spread around. I suppose I was old fashioned, as I was brought up to respect others private lives. These days, anything goes it seems. Anyway, I was just having a rest in my recliner when I got a knock on the door. It was Amy and Laura; they had apparently lost power in their apartment and were checking to see if I’d lost mine as well. I turned on the light switch to find out and the light came on.
“One of your breaker switches must have tripped, I’ll go down and have a look,” I said.
Each apartment had its own electrical panel down in the basement and they were all numbered to correspond with the apartment number, so locating it was easy enough. Once opened I saw that one of the switches had indeed tripped so I closed and then reopened it, before going back upstairs and knocking on their door. Laura answered it.
“Did it come back on?” I said.
“Yes, thank you Conrad. Would you like to have a drink before you go back?” she replied.
“I’d love one,” I replied stepping into her apartment.
“Amy is having a shower, that’s what she was going to do before the power went off,” said Laura.
“I’m guessing that you were using several electrical things before the power went off, is that right?” I replied.
“Come to think of it I was, I was using the toaster, the Kettle and the microwave,” she responded.
“That’s what it was then; in the future I’d use just two things at once in the kitchen if I were you. They tend to draw too much power when they are all used altogether.”
“Right, I’ll remember that. So what would you like to drink, we have wine or a few beers. If you’d prefer we have stronger drinks as well, like Vodka and Brandy.”
“A beer sounds nice, what kind do you have?” I replied.
“Budweiser.”
“That’ll do, I often drink a bud when I go out to eat,” I said.
Laura told me to take a seat, and then Amy came out from the shower with a large towel wrapped around her body and one over her head.
“Hi Conrad, I see the powers fixed, thank you for that,” she said beginning to dry her hair.
“Not a problem,” I replied.
Laura then handed me a bottle of bud and I sat back to enjoy it.
“So, are you writing anything new Conrad?” asked Laura.
“Not at the moment, although I do have an idea for one bouncing around inside my head,” I replied with a smile.
“Well, we both read that book you recommended and I’ve got to say it was very hot,” said Laura with Amy nodding her head in agreement.
“It always makes my day when I’m told that someone liked my writing, it makes it all worthwhile somehow,” I replied.
Four Buds later I
